The Clay Place

Located behind Umpqua Valley Arts Center on Harvard Avenue, the Clay Place offers clay classes for all ages and abilities in a fun and creative environment.  Our emphasis is on kids and serving the community with a place to work. We offer scheduled classes, workshops or specialized classes in clay and other media. We have large clean room available for painting and drawing classes.

 

The Clay Place provides:

Students and artists using the facility make pots, sculpture and tiles. The studio has kick and electric wheels, a slab roller, a pugmill, three electric kilns and lots more. We offer Georgies, Laguna and recycled Cone 6 clays for sale at competitive prices and provide contract firing and kiln repair.

Other Services from The Clay Place

For Art Instructors and others interested in working with clay; we buy clay and glaze materials by the ton and can offer discounted prices to schools or individuals. If you are tired of clays that are too dry to work, need information, classes, or a way to recycle your clay scrap please talk to us.

Hank Murrow- Ceramics Workshop

Saturday, November 15, 2008 in UVAA’s Clay Place

Time: 9am to 4pm

Cost: UVAA member $94   Non member $98

Hank Murrow, an internationally known ceramist, known for his functional and inspired pots, tools and techniques will spend a day in the UVAA clay studio demonstrating techniques on throwing, trimming and hand building with clay extruded forms, talk about kilns and other subjects too many to list.  Included in this workshop is a Free Friday, November 14th evening gallery talk and slide show by Hank, “50 Years in Clay….So Far Anyway,” from 5pm to 7pm.  This is included with the workshop; optional, but considered a must see.

Evening Teen and Adult Clay Classes

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, July 7 - September 12, 2008

10 Week Teen and Adult Class Sessions to learn about clay, glazes and firing stoneware ceramics. A studio class to learn about making clay pots, tiles, masks, whistles and sculpture. Learn wheel throwing, hand building or just register to use the studio space and equipment for the things you want to make from clay. Your registration gets you a free bag of clay, glazes and firing.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Cost: Adults: $100 UVAA members / $110 non-members

Teens (age 12-17): $40 UVAA members / $44 non-members

Evening Kids Classes in Clay

Thursdays, July 10 - September 11, 2008

Jill Stahler comes to us with experience working with both kids and clay in a studio pottery setting. We will create imaginative 3-D items and have fun putting ideas into art and bringing kids together for the great possibilities and projects which can develop. Please join us in welcoming Jill!
