Salmon Run - The Salmon Banners
About the Salmon Run Banner Project
The purpose of the Salmon Run public art project was the development and presentation of public artwork. Through a series of projects, the Umpqua Valley Arts Association brought together artists from around the Umpqua Valley region to create salmon themed artwork for beautifying and enhancing the Roseburg area for residents and visitors alike.
The Salmon Run Banner project gathered and juried proposals from artists throughout the area for salmon themed banners to be hung from street poles in downtown Roseburg. The banners were created by artists of all ages and depict salmon using a variety of mediums. 45 banners in all were created for the Salmon Run Banner Project.
The banners were hung at the Umpqua Valley Arts Association on June 22, 23 and 24, 2007 during the Summer Arts Festival. The banners were then moved to their downtown Roseburg locations for the month of July. After their hanging in downtown Roseburg, Oregon, the banners were shipped to the winners of their respective auctions.

"Chalk" One Up For The Artists!
Over 100 local artists of all ages and experience levels shared a beautiful day of great fun and hard work. UVAA's Salmon Run Project sponsored the Chalk Walk at the Second Annual Harvest Festival in Stewart Park on Saturday, Sept 13th. The artists, working as individuals or in groups, completed 50 salmon-themed chalk art designs in 6' x 6' spaces on the park's paved walking path. The project committee provided basic colors of chalk and many artists also brought their own non-toxic, non-permanent special colors or chalk-based paint. This free event inspired creativity, generated enthusiasm and fostered a wonderful sense of community among the artists as well as the hundreds of "muses" who enjoyed watching the artists in action. Because of its success, plans are in place to repeat the Chalk Walk at next year's Harvest Festival.
