Umpqua Valley Arts Association

Welcome in the warm summer weather at UVAA 2008!

FACT OR FICTION?

In the 1800’s in Washington DC the Japanese government sent cherry trees to the US.  Likewise, in 1994, the newly formed Shobu Delegation from Japan sent Umpqua Valley Arts Association cherry trees to offer their friendship to the artists in Roseburg.  Headed by the then City Manager, Masao Kitamura, he and other delegates planted them here in the front entrance of our building.  The Shobu delegation is once again coming to our area on their annual Oregon tour and  we hope that Mr. Kitamura will stop by to see how they have prospered since their planting in summer of 1994!  Come do the same....they look beautiful!  FACT!

Ever noticed this plaque outside under the cherry tree on the right as you approached the UVAA steps?

You can help Restore & Preserve the Arts Center!

Constructed in 1917, the building that is home to the Arts Center, is a community icon that is at the heart of our region’s art scene.

Age and usage calls for major restoration of the electrical system, plumbing repairs, installation of energy efficient windows and doors, updating the kitchen and bringing the sprinkler system up to code.  In addition, we want to build a permanent stage and create greater access to the facility with an entrance off Harvard Avenue.

To achieve these goals, the Board of Directors has passed a resolution to begin a campaign to raise funds for building improvements.

While the campaign is in its initial planning phase, we ask you to consider helping support this project to restore and preserve this beautiful community icon by contributing to the building fund!

50/50 Saturdays -- (50 Artists on 50 Saturdays)     Arts on the Rise!

UVAA is stepping it up!  If you have not reserved your 4 hour slot to become a guest artist and host to meet and greet the public on a Saturday you're missing the boat!  This is a great opportunity to take advantage of a free space in the lobby to put out your latest work on easels, business cards and or portfolio for those who stop by the arts center.  This is and will become a great win/win for all of us.  We need to YOU to help us market YOU! Our hope is to create a day where people look forward to coming in because an artist is "in the house."
