Suzette Armstrong (Scrap Book Design/Greeting Cards)
About the Artist
Suzi has been working with students of all ages for over 30 years. Through her natural teaching ability she has enchanted students from ages 4 to 84 into experiencing the fun of learning. Rubber-stamping has been her passion for over 16 years and she has been a professional stamper for the past eight. With over 25 years of scrapbooking experience, Suzi primarily focuses on photo scrapbooking with he use of rubber-stamping. Suzi has been associated with and aught classes for Umpqua Valley Arts Association's summer art classes, an after-school program and numerous art days at a local high school.

Personal Statement
I fell that learning is a life long experience. Students participating in the arts program will have an increased awareness of the arts, an enhanced level of creativity and improved degree of self-confidence.
Teaching Objectives
Students will learn to use different types of tools and stamping techniques relevant to their age group and skill level. (Slight curriculum modifications may be made based on the actual skill of the group.) Students will learn to design a greeting card with single imaging or multiple imaging plans, color blocking, color selection, texturing and material manipulation. Each succeeding day will build upon the preceding days’ lessons.
Sequence of Events

- Straight Blade Scissors
- Random stamping
- Signature stamp
- Making single image card with pre selected colors, stamps, and design (25 minutes)
- Make a second single image with a different selection of color & stamps (20 minutes)
- Clean up (5 minutes)
Day One
- Introduce terms & tools (10 minutes)
- Multiple images (odd number, multiples acting as odd)
- Embellishments
- Make a multiple image stamped card with students’ selection of design (25 minutes)
- Make a multiple image card using embellishments and students’ own design (20 minutes)
- Clean up (10 minutes)
Day Two
- Introduce terms, tools and demonstration (15 minutes)
- Heating
- Watercolor/invisible ink
- Heat gun stand
- Embossing powder/powder
- Discuss molecular changes from powder to liquid to solid. Cite samples of other types of examples of molecular change
- Make a single image card with greeting using embossing powder (35 minutes)
- Make a bookmarker (if time permits)
- Clean up (10 minutes)
Day Three
- Introduce terms and tools (10 minutes)
- Permanent Ink
- Beading technique
- Fiber distribution
- Blotting
- Looping fiber
- Make a name tag using permanent ink on countertop sample, looping the fiber and beading with pony beads (45 minutes)
- Clean up (5 minutes)
Day Four
- Review of techniques (10 minutes)
- Stamping image
- Journaling
- Fancy Scissors
- Color blocking
- Mounting
- Looping Fiber
- Fiber distribution
- Make a journal page with a sample design using techniques learned in previous days (40 minutes)
- Clean up and art show of work (10 minutes)
Day Five
Staff Development
Suzi offers a 2-hour in-service for teachers to learn basic stamping applications to apply to daily classroom activities. Also offered is a 2-hour workshop for community support members for school fundraising in greeting card making or scrap booking. All products and tools for training purposes are provided by the arts (limited to 25 per class.)
Facility/Supplies
Access to an overhead projector and electrical outlet are appreciated. Students grouped in fours at tables for tool sharing is optimum, but not necessary. Please add another $1 per child for additional supplies.
