About the Artist

Renee studied art at St. Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas, is a member of the Oregon Watercolor Society and is a self-taught mosaic artist.  She has been volunteering in schools since 1992 and joined the Artist in Residency program in 1995.  She has created permanent mosaic murals at Fir Grove, Melrose, Eastwood, Fullerton IV, and Winchester schools as well as a Roman mosaic at the Douglas County Museum.  Renee teaches summer classes at the Art Center and currently teaches Art part-time at Cobb Street School.

Teaching Objectives

I want to take children through the entire process of making a permanent mosaic art piece from designing, learning techniques and executing their ideas by breaking tiles, using found objects and making clay pieces to incorporate into the mosaic mural.

Depending on the size and the number of children involved my residencies will require 2-4 weeks and have even been broken into two-year projects.  I am available Monday, Wednesday and Friday and am very flexible.

Staff Development

Renee will work with staff to create their own mural or just educate them on the process.

Facility/Supplies

I require a room big enough to accommodate the size of the mural where it will be created on tables or floor until installation.  Some tiles and objects will need to be purchased by the school but most will be from donations.
