Nancy Anderson & Pam Shoemaker
About the Artist
Nancy Anderson and Pam Shoemaker taught together at Hucrest Elementary in Roseburg, Oregon for 25 years. Nancy is a University of Oregon graduate with a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Pam graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in early childhood education from Central Washington State College. They have collaborated for years making “retirement quilts” for their colleagues. They enjoy making donation quilts for charity and designing quilts for local classrooms. In addition, Pam has a home-based wedding cake business, and Nancy teaches children’s literature for Northwest Christian University in Eugene. They both enjoy volunteering to teach the Art Express Lessons at the local elementary schools. They also actively substitute for the Douglas County School System. They feel, together, they can teach quilting in the classroom, and make it possible for students to design and, learn about the historical value of quilts, the literary connection with quilts, and as a final project, construct a classroom quilt as a legacy for their school, or volunteer donation.

Residencies
Nancy and Pam have a wealth of teaching art activities to elementary students. They have been actively involved in teaching Art Express lessons in the county. They have also worked with students to design and create quilts for pre and elementary schools. Pam and Nancy are looking forward to art residencies as a new experience.
Staff Development
Pam and Nancy would work with the staff to facilitate the teaching objectives in a way that would enhance the curriculum and lessen the staff’s heavy work load. They would like to work with the staff to facilitate their teaching objectives and welcome the teacher’s input in designing a quilt curriculum that would work for their needs.
Facility/Supplies
The quilt team will provide the supplies, at cost. The cost would be determined by the project and is anticipated to cost no more that $2 per child. Pam and Nancy will construct a quilt from the student’s work. The students would help with the quilting and or tying as they are developmentally able to do so.
